Prarancangan Pabrik Asam Benzoat dari Toluena dan Oksigen dengan Kapasitas 34.000 Ton/Tahun
Benzoic acid is a chemical compound used as the main ingredient in the production of food preservatives and antiseptics. Benzoic acid can be produced from the oxidation process of toluene. The raw materials in this design consist of toluene, oxygen, and cobalt acetate catalyst. The production process takes place in a bubble column reactor with a liquid, gas, and solid phase at a temperature of 150 ℃ with a pressure of 15 atm. Benzoic acid production capacity is planned at 34,000 tons/year with 330 working days in 1 year. The plant location is planned to be established in Karangdowo, Socorejo, Jenu District, Tuban Regency, East Java by considering the distance to the raw material provider factory, transportation access, and located in the industrial area. This plant has supporting units such as utilities which are divided into several units such as water supply units, steam, fuel and electricity. The results of the analysis and economic feasibility of the benzoic acid plant are Payback Period (PBP) of 3.13 years, Discounted Payback Period (DPBP) of 3.55 years, Return of Investment (ROI) of 46.92%, Break Event Point (BEP) of 43.50%, Shut Down Point (SDP) of 18%, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 23%. Based on the results of the analysis and economic feasibility, it is concluded that benzoic acid plant with a capacity of 34,000 tons/year is feasible to set up and operate.
