Pengaruh Variasi Mesh dan Fraksi Volume Serbuk Kayu Bayur (Pterospermum Javanicum) Sebagai Penguat Komposit Resin Polyester Terhadap Kekuatan Mekanik
ABSTRACT
This research aims to determine the effect of volume fraction and particle size of bayur wood powder (pterospermum javanicum) based on mechanical values of bending tests, as well as fracture patterns observed with macro photographs. The main research material is bayur wood powder (pterospermum javanicum) with polyester resin in a ratio of 85%; 15% and 80 %. This research uses variations in resin volume fractions of 15% and 20% and particle size variations of 100 mesh and 150 mesh. The test carried out is a bending test based on the ASTM D790 standard. The highest value was obtained by variation (150 mesh) with a bending strength value of 36.18 MPa, while the lowest value was obtained by variation (150 mesh) with a bending strength value of 16.99 MPa. The highest strain modulus value was obtained by variation (150 mesh) of 0.022 mm, while the lowest value was obtained by variation (150 mesh) of 0.007 mm. The highest value of elastic modulus was obtained in the variation (150 mesh) of 404.78 GPa, while the lowest value was obtained in the variation (150 mesh) of 28.20 GPa. Volume fraction affects the mechanical strength value because more adhesive reduces voids in the composite. The smaller the particle size, the higher the composite density. In the macro photo there is a brittle fracture boundary in the sample.
